What is a Walk-In Shower?
Our walk-in showers are designed to make it easy and safe for elderly or disabled people to shower, even if you find an over-bath or a regular tray shower challenging. And they’re designed with your specific needs in mind. So, if you need a seat, slip-resistant surfaces or safety grab bars, that’s what you get.
Your shower safety is our top priority. We work with you to make sure your new mobility shower has everything you need now, and everything you’ll need in the future. Plus, we build it beautifully in your favourite style, whether that’s modern, classic or something in between.
What are the different types of walk-In showers?
Level access walk-in showers
For the best accessibility, you need level access. There’s no transition between the floor and the shower, so you can roll your wheelchair or walk straight in.
Low-level access walk-in showers
Low-level access showers have a small, even step up from the floor. They’re perfect if you’re ready to switch from an over-bath shower to a walk-in shower.

FAQs
Answers to some of the questions we get asked most often. If you can’t see the answer you need here, have a look on our FAQs Page.
What is a Walk-in Shower?
A walk-in shower is an open shower unit with no door or curtain. It’s specifically designed to be accessible so it’s ideal for elderly people, people with limited mobility and wheelchair users.
Walk-in showers have either completely flush access, or very low-level access, so there’s no need to step over high ledges.
The open design makes them easy to get in and out of, and they can be built with plenty of room for a wheelchair to move around. And, they can be fitted with whatever safety features you need like grab handles, non-slip surfaces and shower seats.
A walk-in shower is a great solution if you have limited mobility.
How much does a walk-in shower cost?
It depends. Things like design, size, features and installation requirements can affect the price you pay.
But with EA Mobility, you get a free, no-obligation home visit from one of our assessors. They’ll talk to you about your needs and measure up your existing bathroom, then give you a design and precise quote.
How do I clean a walk-in shower?
The accessible design of walk-in showers means they’re easy to clean. It’s simple to get in with your cleaning kit, and there are fewer nooks and crannies for dirt to accumulate.
You can use a long-handled, soft-bristled brush or sponge mop and mild, non-abrasive cleaner for routine cleaning. If you use a wheelchair, you can get specially designed cleaning tools with extendable handles so you can reach everywhere without straining.
We’d recommend waiting until the shower is dry before cleaning it, to avoid streaks and water spots.
Once you’ve cleaned your walk-in shower, give it a rinse with warm water and dry it off with a squeegee or microfibre cloth. Remember to clean the drain too, to help avoid blockages.
How do you install a walk-in shower?
Like with any bathroom, installing a walk-in shower needs careful planning. You need to get all the drainage, waterproofing and accessibility right.
We usually start by removing the existing shower or bath, then preparing the floor for level access entry. We install a waterproof membrane to prevent leaks, and we sort the drainage so everything flows away properly.
Then, the shower panels and glass enclosures are fitted, along with any safety features. Last of all, we connect up the plumbing and test to make sure everything is working.
We always recommend professional installation to make sure everything is fitted properly and your new shower meets all safety and accessibility standards.
Walk-in shower not quite what you need?
